The Katzenjammer Kids

The Katzenjammer Kids je američki strip koji je stvorio njemački autor Rudolph Dirks, i koji se prvi put pojavio 12. decembra 1897. u American Humorist, humorističkom nedjeljnom prilogu novina New York Journal.[1]Strip je bio inspiriran Max i Moritz, slikovnicom Wilhelma Buscha koja je uživala ogromnu popularnost na njemačkom govornom području. Naslovni protagonisti su dva nestašna dječaka - Hans i Fritz - koji se bune protiv autoriteta i čine razne nepodopštine čije su žrtve Mama, njihov poočim der Captain, der Inspector (školski nadzornik), da bi na kraju svake epizode bili kažnjeni. Riječ katzenjammer na njemačkom doslovno znači "zavijanje mačaka", ali u žargonu također označava mamurluk.

Dirks je strip stvarao sve do 1912. godine kada je, nezadovoljan tretmanom od strane poslodavaca, napustio Journal. Umjesto njega je strip nastavio raditi Harold Knerr, koji će to činiti sve do 1949. U međuvremenu je Dirks odlučio ponovno raditi strip, ali pod drugim imenom - Hans und Fritz, a kasnije pod imenom The Captain and the Kids. Dvije suparničke verzije stripa su postojale sve do prestanka The Captain and the Kids 1979. godine. The Katzenjammer Kids se nastavio objavljivati do današnjih dana, što ga čini najdugovječnijim stripom u historiji.
