Mathru Devata (transl.Mother) is a 1969 Telugu-language drama film, produced by Atluri Purnachandra Rao, M. Chandra Sekhar under the Poorna Art Pictures banner[2] and directed by Savitri.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Savitri, Sobhan Babu[4] and music composed by K. V. Mahadevan.[5]

Plot

The film begins with Engineer Srinivasa Rao leading a delightful life with his wife, Lakshmi, mother, Shantamma, and daughter Latha. Except for Sivaiah, who envies his success, the office staff admires him. So, he ruses to kill him with his paramour Gauri when he only dies falling under the train, which declares Srinivasa Rao is dead and his desperate family quits. Here, Srinivasa Rao goes back to Gauri and discerns the ploy. In that conflict, Gauri accidentally falls by him. Due to the threat of sentence, Srinivasa Rao flees, and a malicious Mohan snares him. In tandem, Lakshmi, Shantamma & Latha reside in a colony where a noble constable, Dharmaiah, treats them as his own. Alongside, Sheshavataram, the sly merchant therein, always shows resentment toward them.

Years pass, and Latha crushes with Dharmaiah's son Raja, a police officer. Lakshmi loses her job, so Latha becomes the breadwinner via dance performances. Spotting it, Mohan lusts and tries to molest her when Srinivasa Rao secures her. He safely lands her at home when he comes across his family and requests to be silent. Therefore, he is frequent and handles his family. Exploiting it, Sheshavataram spreads black information, which is exaggerated when Lakshmi conceives. While Dharmaiah & Raja suspect her chastity, Shantamma divulges the actuality to Dharmaiah. Parallelly, Sheshavataram enrages the public and denounces Lakshmi. Ergo, Srinivasa Rao emerges, revealing his identity when Raja seizes him. Finally, Dharmaiah uncovers that Gauri is alive and that Mohan is the culprit. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Raja & Latha.
